CHICAGO – The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) is currently seeking volunteers to submit proposals for three upcoming leadership opportunities within the association. The deadline for proposals for all of the opportunities is Jan. 29. For more information and for details on how to submit a proposal, visit
www.ala.org/aasl/aaslrfp.
Every Wednesday during the month of April, AASL will offer four 60-minute webinars on AASL's
Empowering Learners: Guidelines for School Library Media Programs. AASL invites interested presenters to submit proposals that focus on one of the four chapters in the program guidelines:
- Developing Visions for Learning
- Teaching for Learning
- Building the Learning Environment
- Empowering Learning through Leadership
Accepted proposals will be paid a one-time honorarium and receive 10 percent of net revenue from their webinar. The presenter must have access to a Web cam during their presentation.
AASL is also seeking proposals for a member volunteer to serve as a Curator establishing and managing a virtual writing gallery from January 2010 thru June 2010. However, based on funding the term of service could be extended.
The National Gallery of Writing is a virtual writing exhibit created by the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE) in conjunction with the National Day on Writing, Oct. 20, 2009. Within the National Gallery of Writing Web site, AASL will host a National Partner Gallery focused on a Learning4Life (L4L) theme. L4L is the implementation plan created to support states, school systems and individual schools preparing to implement AASL's learning standards and program guidelines.
Finally, AASL is seeking a member volunteer to serve as the Editorial Board Chairperson managing the Essential Links: Resources for School Library Media Program Development wiki (
http://aasl.ala.org/essentiallinks) through June 2010. Essential Links is a collaborative community database of program development resources for school library media specialists. The Editorial Board Chairperson will be responsible for leading the overall continued development of the Essential Links wiki.
The duties include, but are not limited to: review and revise proposed policies and procedures defining access and edits to the wiki; review and recommend revisions to the selection policy; recruit and oversee a group of volunteer editors on various topics within the wiki; and regularly review existing resources and recommend new resources for continued relevancy to the AASL learning standards and program guidelines and current trends in SLMP development. Familiarity with MediaWiki or other wiki software is desirable.
The American Association of School Librarians,
www.aasl.org, a division of the American Library Association (ALA), promotes the improvement and extension of library media services in elementary and secondary schools as a means of strengthening the total education program. Its mission is to advocate excellence, facilitate change and develop leaders in the school library media field.
