Greece promotes public libraries with @ your library brand

CHICAGO – The Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists showcased the @ your library brand at the recent 2009 IFLA Conference in Milan, Italy.
George Glossiotis, vice-president of the Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists, presented a report on Greece’s use of the “@ your library” brand and how the association used it to promote public libraries in Greece. Glossiotis also distributed calendars he had created for librarians across Greece to program attendees. The calendars use an @ your library slogan for the opening page of each month and serve as a reminder to promote the campaign all year round.
The Association of Greek Librarians and Information Scientists is the scientific and professional association representing professional librarians in the country. Founded in 1968, the association has been a member of The Campaign for the World’s Libraries since 2002.
The Campaign for the World’s Libraries was developed by the America Library Association’s (ALA) Campaign for America’s Libraries and the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) to showcase the unique and vital roles played by public, school, academic and special libraries worldwide. It is based on The Campaign for America’s Libraries and utilizes the @ your library® brand.
To date, 35 countries have joined the campaign, and the “@ your library” brand has been translated into each country’s language. The “@ your library” brand is currently available in 29 languages. The Campaign has recently debuted logos in partner countries’ flag colors, as well.
