CHICAGO - The American Association of School Librarians (AASL) Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) Coordinating Committee will host a six-part webinar series to assist college and university faculty as they begin to align their programs, individual courses, and assessments to the 2019 ALA/AASL/CAEP School Librarian Preparation Standards. School library professionals teaching as faculty, instructor, or adjunct in a school library preparation program are invited to attend. Registration is now open at www.ala.org/aasl/caep/webinars

“I’m excited about the new ALA/AASL/CAEP School Librarian Preparation Standards,” said Mary Keeling, AASL President. “This webinar series will have a tremendous impact in shaping the future of our profession by helping educators of school librarians incorporate the National School Library Standards into their curricula. I want to thank April Dawkins and the CAEP Coordinating Committee for their strategic and thoughtful work on this project.”

The CAEP webinar series includes a pre-recorded introductory webinar and one live webinar for each of the five standards. The pre-recorded session will be made available during the week of March 9 and will provide an overview of the new preparation standards, how they were developed, and the steps faculty and instructors may wish to take to implement the new standards within their programs. It is recommended that participants watch the pre-recorded webinar prior to attending the live sessions.

The live standards-based webinars will be presented each Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Central and will begin on March 24. Each webinar will focus on one of the preparation standards: The Learner and Learning; Planning for Instruction; Knowledge and Application of Content; Organization and Access; Leadership, Advocacy, and Professional Responsibility. Webinars will provide an overview of the standard, its components, its rubrics, examples of candidate actions, and conclude with an attendee discussion of implementation strategies.

The webinars will be recorded and archived for on-demand viewing in ALL | AASL Learning Library
