LLAMA presents Library Building Projects 101 – Planning, Design, and Construction: a two-day workshop with optional third day site tour

The prospect of starting a library building project can often seem overwhelming to even the most seasoned library professional.  So many questions.  So many variables.  Where to start???  You don’t need a license or a degree in architecture to produce a building that meets your needs and the needs of your constituents, but it’s important to start with a general working knowledge of what is involved.

The Library Leadership and Management Association’s (LLAMA) Buildings and Equipment Community of Practice will present “Library Building Projects 101 – Planning, Design, and Construction,” on October 18-20, 2019, in Columbus, Ohio.  This two-day workshop and optional third day site tour will delve into the many facets related to your next Library Building project. Intended for librarians, library staff, trustees, and architects, this workshop will examine critical topics through lectures and discussions. Material covered includes goal setting, process definition, site selection, team composition, budget development, and the types of planning required to bring a project to successful fruition, whether in new construction, renovation or expansion. An optional final day tour will explore new local public and academic libraries.

Participants will learn:

  • What pre-project considerations are critical to consider
  • How to assemble a successful team from both inside and outside you organization
  • How to set a library building project budget
  • What makes a great site: location, size and ownership
  • Which levels of sustainability and LEED can bring the most value
  • About examples of successful projects during an optional tour of sites on the final day

Workshop fees:
