CHICAGO – OverDrive Education has been selected by American Association of School Librarians (AASL) President Kathryn Roots Lewis as a 2019 recipient of the AASL Crystal Apple. The Crystal Apple honor is given at the discretion of the AASL President to an individual or group that has had a significant impact on school libraries and students.

OverDrive Education's generous support enables AASL to launch a two-year initiative to engage with an audience vital to the success of school librarian advocacy: school administrators. The "AASL School Leader Collaborative: Administrators & School Librarians Transforming Teaching and Learning" aims to strengthen AASL’s collaboration with school administrators. The initiative champions the school librarian’s integral role in teaching and learning. AASL will convene a national AASL School Leader Collaborative to serve as active ambassadors for school libraries and to create messaging and advice on advocacy strategies.

OverDrive Education is also the sponsor of Friday's general session during the AASL National Conference taking place Nov. 14-16, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky. The session will feature Dr. Adolph Brown, III, an internationally recognized speaker and author on children, teens, parenting, bullying and character. Through OverDrive Education's support, Dr. Brown will bring his uniquely inspiring, relevant and entertaining message to conference attendees.

"It is an honor and privilege to present the AASL President’s Crystal Apple Award to OverDrive Education in honor of their deep and sustained commitment to the paramount importance of school librarians and school administrators to the learning communities they serve," said Lewis. "Their generosity will impact AASL and school librarians for years to come."

The AASL award winners will be recognized at the AASL Awards Ceremony during the 2019 ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The ceremony will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 22. All are welcome to celebrate the accomplishments of their peers during this recognition event.
