Author Ann Patchett to speak at 2019 PLA Member Welcome Breakfast

CHICAGO -- The New York Times bestselling author Ann Patchett will be the special guest speaker, courtesy of HarperCollins, at the Public Library Association's (PLA) Member Welcome Breakfast at the 2019 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference in Washington, DC.  PLA President Monique le Conge Ziesenhenne, PhD will host the Breakfast during which PLA will also recognize the recipients of its 2019 Awards and Grants. The Breakfast will take place Saturday, June 22, 8:30 -10:00 a.m. Eastern, in Marquis Ballroom Salon 1-5 of the Marriott Marquis Washington DC Hotel.  Attendance is reserved exclusively for PLA members and tickets (available free of charge to PLA personal members) are required.

Ann Patchett is the author of seven novels, The Patron Saint of LiarsTaftThe Magician’s AssistantBel CantoRunState of Wonder, and Commonwealth.  She was the editor of Best American Short Stories, 2006; and has written three books of nonfiction, Truth & BeautyWhat now?, and, most recently, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage.  She has won numerous prizes, including the PEN/Faulkner Award and the Orange Prize for Fiction, and her work has been translated into more than thirty languages.  She was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine.  Patchett is the co-owner of Parnassus Books in Nashville, TN, where she lives with her husband, Karl VanDevender, and their dog, Sparky.
