CHICAGO—ALA Publishing eLearning Solutions announces an exciting new workshop, Increase Your Circulation with Visual Merchandising: Bookstore Display Principles with Allison Fiscus. This workshop will last 90 minutes and take place at 2:30pm Eastern/1:30 Central/12:30 Mountain/11:30am Pacific on Wednesday, March 20, 2019.

Research shows that people visit physical spaces that make them feel comfortable, are easy to use, and provide some level of entertainment—and a well-merchandised library does all these things.

In this new workshop, library manager Allison Fiscus covers the science behind retail merchandising, why it works, and practical strategies for applying merchandising concepts to a public library environment. You’ll learn how to create a well-merchandized physical space that is enticing, entertaining, and welcoming.

This webinar helps solve many of the preliminary issues that libraries face when attempting to make this change. The strategies discussed in this webinar capitalize on the work that has already been done by retailers, such as Barnes and Noble, but adapts it to fit the specific situation public libraries are in. You’ll learn how to take a preliminary analysis of your library’s needs, what makes a display visually appealing vs. unappealing, how to unify signage across your space, and how to work within your budget and staffing needs.

This workshop is appropriate for all levels of library work, from page shelver to management and administration. The changes and strategies Fiscus suggests can be done on a small or large scale.
