CHICAGO—Sherry Machones, Library System Director, Northern Waters Library System (WI) was elected as the 2018-2019 President Elect of the Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA) division of the American Library Association (ALA). Machones will serve her Presidential term during 2019-2020.
“Advocating for inclusive services has been a major focus for me since becoming a system director and a consultant. I’ve worked in libraries since high school and have seen so many populations that are chronically underserved. While my duties and job titles have changed over my career advocating for services is an important aspect of what I have always done as a librarian,” Machones stated. “Serving as ASCLA President, I plan to work with the board of directors, members, and staff to take our national advocation of service and those that serve to the local level. I would be honored to represent all of your voices as I continue ASCLA’s legacy.”
Other individuals elected to ASCLA leadership roles include: Director at Large: Stephen Spohn; Designated Director, Special Populations: Mike Marlin; Designated Director, Cooperatives and Networks: Tracy Byerly; Designated Director, State Library Agencies; Janice Young and Councilor: Michael Golrick.
The Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA), a division of the American Library Association, enhances the effectiveness of library service by advocating for and providing high quality networking, enrichment and educational opportunities for its diverse members, who represent state library agencies, libraries serving special populations, library cooperatives and library consultants.
