CHICAGO – Only three weeks remain to secure advance registration for the AASL National Conference & Exhibition. Attendees finalizing their registration prior to Oct. 12 save $50 over late/on-site rates for the conference, taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Ariz. More information, including a Make Your Case to Attend infographic can be found at national.aasl.org.

“The AASL National Conference is a gathering of the most vibrant leaders from our profession from across the nation,” said Mary Ann Scheuer, conference co-chair. “People you read articles about are there in-person. Hearing from these experts and other inspiring speakers gives me the stamina and excitement to go back to my local community and give 150 percent. The conference also helps me look at my own practice and see what I can do to keep learning, growing, and improving my craft.”

One of the most anticipated events of the 2017 conference is the launch of the new AASL "National School Library Standards for Learners, School Librarians, and School Libraries." Dedicated programming – including half-day preconferences, a general session, Unconference, and concurrent sessions – will introduce the standards and provide an overview of the implementation plan. The new standards will be available for purchase at the conference bookstore or can be pre-purchased during registration.  All preconference attendees will receive copies as part of their registration fee.

Other scheduled programming for the 2017 conference includes general session speakers Jaime Casap, chief educational evangelist at Google, and author Jason Reynolds, recipient of the Coretta Scott King Honor, the Walter Dean Myers Award, and the Kirkus Award. In addition, the conference includes school and cultural tours; author sessions, events, and signings; a school library research symposium; more than 100 concurrent sessions; and an exhibit hall filled with the latest resources and technologies for the school library program.

The AASL National Conference & Exhibition is the only national conference dedicated solely to the needs of school librarians and their roles as educational leaders. “Beyond the Horizon,” taking place Nov. 9-11, 2017, in Phoenix, Arizona, will feature preconference workshops, concurrent sessions, and an exhibition featuring companies relevant to the profession. Those communicating about the national conference are encouraged to use the official hashtag, #aasl17.
