CHICAGO — The Acquisitions Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) has selected Kristen Wilson, associate head, Acquisitions and Discovery at North Carolina State University, to receive the 2017 HARRASSOWITZ Leadership in Library Acquisitions Award. The award will be presented on June 24 at the ALCTS Awards Ceremony during the 2017 American Library Association (ALA) Annual Conference and Exhibition in Chicago.

The award, sponsored annually by HARRASSOWITZ and named in honor of Dr. Knut Dorn, longtime senior managing partner at HARRASSOWITZ, is given to a librarian to recognize outstanding leadership and other contributions in the field of acquisitions and includes a $1,500 monetary award and a citation.

Wilson has been an innovator in the acquisitions field during her 10-year career, focusing on electronic resources management, knowledge bases and workflow analysis. She has been a contributor to the development of E-Matrix, an electronic resources management system developed locally at North Carolina State University Libraries. Wilson is now bringing her ERM expertise to FOLIO, an international collaborative effort to develop an open source library services platform. Wilson has also been active in the use and development of e-resources knowledge bases, particularly through her involvement with the Global Open Knowledgebase (GOKb) project. She served as the first GOKb editor, helping to develop prototype workflows for data collection and maintenance within an open data framework. She later became principal investigator for the project, guiding industry-wide discussions about the role of open data in the e-resources supply chain.

In 2016, Wilson published "The Knowledge Base at the Center of the Universe," an ALA TechSource Library Technology Report assessing trends in knowledge base development. She currently serves on the standing committee for NISO's Knowledge Bases and Related Tools Recommended Practice. An active member of NASIG, Wilson is one of the editors of the NASIG Conference Proceedings and previously edited the column Electronic Resources Forum for Serials Review. She has presented frequently at the Electronic Resources & Libraries, NASIG and Charleston conferences.

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services (ALCTS) is the national association for information providers who work in collections and technical services, such as acquisitions, cataloging, collection development, preservation and continuing resources in digital and print formats. ALCTS is a division of the American Library Association.
