New ALCTS Slogan Focuses on Conserving the Past, Building the Future
For Immediate Release
CHICAGO—On Saturday, June 25, the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS) announced the winner of the ALCTS Slogan Contest at the 2016 ALCTS Membership Meeting and Awards Ceremony at the ALA Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla. Honoring the work of ALCTS in sustaining the past and establishing a solid foundation for the future of technical services, collection management, and preservation, the new slogan, Creating the Future, Preserving the Past, will be used to promote the association and its mission and goals.
“Our new slogan, Creating the Future, Preserving the Past, is an inspirational and aspirational phrase that will represent ALCTS for years to come. This slogan captures the spirit of our diamond anniversary year as we'll celebrate ALCTS' rich history, but more importantly it charts a course for an exciting future,” said ALCTS Past-President Norm Medeiros. Along with the ALCTS Advocacy and Policy Committee and the ALCTS Office, Medeiros helped spearhead and coordinate the contest.
Mary Beth Weber, the winner of the ALCTS Slogan Contest, received an individual registration for the ALCTS Virtual Preconference for Annual 2016 and a Fall 2016 individual webinar registration package. “ALCTS has been a leader in implementing guidelines and standards that enable us to make new and emerging formats discoverable. We've also become leaders in nationally recognized preservation initiatives that facilitate access to rare and unique locally held collections. Our division has accomplished all of this through the combined efforts of experienced and engaged professionals and amazing early career librarians," said Weber.
Part of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of ALCTS in 2017, the ALCTS Slogan Contest ran from April 25-May 6, 2016. More than 50 entries were submitted and ALCTS members were invited to participate in two rounds of voting. The ALCTS Office and the ALCTS Advocacy and Policy Committee thank all who took part in this exciting contest.
