New advanced eCourse: Web Design and Development
For Immediate Release
CHICAGO — ALA Publishing is pleased to announce the first event that marks a new collaboration with the School of Library and Information Science at San José State University (SJSU SLIS) to provide in-depth, advanced eCourses that will take participants from introductory through to high level, applicable content in 12 weeks.
Top-notch faculty from the SJSU information school will guide participants as they dig deep into cutting-edge topics during the 12-week online courses, equipping them with potentially transformative knowledge and skills. The collaboration combines leading SJSU faculty and in-depth content with ALA Publishing’s experience in delivering professional development in various formats to a wide audience of librarians and library workers.
The first advanced eCourse to be offered is Web Design and Development with Raymond Dean, a lecturer for SJSU SLIS whose years of experience as a Web developer will allow him to break this complex concept down into accessible and simple parts that participants can then build back into a skill set that has become crucial for many librarians.
Participants in the Web Design and Development online course will learn the current and correct way to create a website with HTML5 and CSS3 that will display properly on both mobile and desktop devices. The course will focus on using current techniques and industry best practices with a focus on creating content that is usable and accessible and does not require any prior experience with markup or programming languages. The course will take participants from basic background, introductions to HTML and Web standards, and the concept of modular Web design all the way through responsive design and multimedia.
The 12 weeks of this course will progress asychronously. Within the week-by-week format, students will be able to work at their own pace and interact with the instructor through emails and message boards without the constaints of attending a live session at a specific time. The 12-week course begins on Monday, June 2, 2014. For more information about the course, including how to register, please visit the ALA Store at http://www.alastore.ala.org/detail.aspx?ID=10998.
