International Librarians

Personal membership in the American Library Association is available for librarians and library workers practicing outside of the United States at discounted rates.  International members received full rights and privileges of ALA membership including eligibility to serve on committees, run for office and join any division or round table.  The American Library Association will also extend official letters of invitation to our International Members upon request.

As an international member, ALA is inexpensive, and I've gotten a lot out of my involvement with the New Members Round Table.  I am a member in order to support the ALA Washington Office and OIF. I am also still a member of ALIA, in my home country.
- FionaBradley, ALP Programme Coordinator, International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions

While many divisions and round tables will be interesting to you, our International Relations Round Table (IRRT) will be particularly relevant.  IRRT creates connections between librarians in the United States and abroad, providing you with access to peers around the world who are interested in similar areas of librarianship as well as issues affecting library service delivery in various communities.  The IRRT is staffed by our International Relations Office and is the center of activity for International Members around the association.  IRRT membership is free upon request to ALA International Members residing outside of the United States.

No other event in the library world offers information professionals a better opportunity to learn about the current issues and trends in the fields of library and information science and technology than the ALA Annual Conference. Every year more than 20,000 information professionals from around the globe attend the Annual Conference.  International members enjoy discounts on registration along with special orientation sessions, networking receptions, preconferences, papers and poster sessions.  You are invited to participate in this premier conference experience.
