A World of Resources for All Types of Libraries
ALA, its offices, divisions, and round tables offer members a large number of toolkits, tools, and professional resources, at no cost, that support all types of needs for all types of libraries.
This page collects them all in one easy-to-use resource. Take a look at the following list to locate tools that you can use now and also become aware of others that might serve your needs later or that you can tell a colleague about.
The ALA's EBook Toolkit provides esources to help start and continue the conversation regarding library e-book lending, access issues, and general public awareness. Tools include press release and op-ed templates and guidelines for using them with editorial and news media contacts, news hooks you can use locally, tips for relationship building with media contacts, and links to examples of e-book-related editorials and news stories.
This toolkit is designed to help practitioners learn more about the key ideas of the learning standards and share those messages with others. It includes official AASL materials as well as materials created by L4L coordinators, practicing school librarians, library school faculty members, and experts in the field of education.
This list includes documents entitled “standards” and “guidelines” as well as other documents of a similar nature entitled “statements,” “rules,” and “criteria.” Only those documents entitled “standards” and “guidelines” have been reviewed by the ALA Standards Review Committee for consistency with ALA policy. The intent of this list is to present ALA's official standards and guidelines and to also include additional documents prepared and endorsed by various ALA units for the purpose of helping others improve library service.
Gaming services epitomize library as third place, creating a community gathering spot between home and work/school. That third place encourages play, socialization, and cultural enrichment. Libraries looking for ways to reach beyond their traditional patron base are turning to gaming.
