President's Program

Carrie Messina
LLAMA President's Program
"Leaders as Followers, You Don't Have to be in Charge to be a Leader"
With over 12,000 employees at Wynn and Encore resorts, Carrie Messina, Vice-President of Human Resources, will provide a unique perspective on empowering employees at all levels of an organization to lead. Ms. Messina will discuss her experience, and the results, of a unique storytelling program she has implemented to improve customer service at this five-star resort. Through specific examples and takeaways she will illustrate what she considers to be a true leader. Attendees will gain insights into leadership and learn why the best leaders know how to first be great followers. This program is generously supported by YBP Library Services.
Saturday 10:30-12:00, LVCC-S229

Preconferences on Friday, June 27

Library Tour: Las Vegas Libraries, Legends and Highrollers
8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Serving Homeless Library Users in Academic and Public Libraries; 11:30 am – 5:00 pm
Caesars Palace, Milano IV Room
Join this full-day tour of new libraries, including:
  • Paseo Verde Library in Henderson
  • University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) library and special collections
  • Windmill Library and Service Center, a LEED gold building

The tour will be led by a local historian and members of the Architecture for Public Libraries Committee; registration includes motor coach transportation and a light lunch.

The U.S. has over 600,000 homeless people with needs ranging from a place to sleep to mental health and medical care. The library, with its mission of service, is a logical place for the homeless to congregate during the day. Experts will discuss issues, challenges, and share innovative best practices for serving homeless patrons.

Topics include design considerations, security issues and homeless LGBTQ youth.  There will also be a keynote speaker from the National Coalition for the Homeless.

For pricing and additional information see the Annual Conference Ticketed Events page. To register for any of these events, you can include them with your initial registration or add them later using the unique link in your email confirmation. If you don't have your registration confirmation handy, you can request a copy by emailing alaannual@compusystems.com.
