This biennial competition is co-sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA).  The awards honor international excellence in library interior design. Award winners demonstrate excellence in aesthetics, design, creativity, function, and satisfaction of the client’s objectives. The competition is managed by the LLAMA Buildings and Equipment Section (BES) Interior Design Awards Committee.

 

2014 Award Winners

“The entries that we received for this biennial competition clearly speak to the evolving needs of 21st-century library patrons,” IIDA Executive Vice President and CEO Cheryl S. Durst, Hon. FIIDA, LEED AP, said.  “And they illustrate that library design spaces can inspire as well as they function.  We are pleased to honor and celebrate this year’s winners and their contribution to the elevation of design.”

Serving the judging panel for the 2014 ALA/IIDA Library Interior Design Awards were Christy S. Cain, IIDA, RID, LEED AP BD+C (Senior Associate, Perkins + Will); Stasia Czech, IIDA (Senior Associate and Interior Designer, NBBJ); Jessica N. Kayongo, J.D, M.A. (Anthropology & Interim Sociology Librarian, Hesburgh Libraries, University of Notre Dame); and Richard L. (Dick) Waters, MLS (Principal Consultant, Godfrey’s Associates, Inc.).
