Position description/Responsibilities:


The Science Librarian will be responsible for collection management pertaining to the physical and biological sciences; supervise staff and student assistants; provide reference, liaison, instruction, and outreach services; create and maintain science related content for the library’s website; collaborate with others to develop innovative digital management and curation projects; serve on library and University-wide committees or related governance bodies; and engage in professional and scholarly activities including research and peer-reviewed publication.  Collection oriented activities will be conducted in collaboration with Rasmuson Library’s Collection Development Librarian and UAF’s Geophysical Institute Librarian. The Science Librarian will assist with the provision of both in-person and on-line general reference and research services including occasional weekend hours. Instructional activities will include teaching one section per year of Library Information and Research (LS 101), a one-credit course required for Baccalaureate graduation, as well as the design and implementation of course integrated bibliographic instruction for undergraduate and graduate level science. Liaison activities will be focused on the immediate campus environment but may include outreach to three off-site fisheries centers.

Innovative projects in progress include: revamping of the library’s reference and research services with appropriate inclusion of technological advances; reorganization of physical space to accommodate a learning commons environment; expansion of the library’s instructional and outreach activities; and the development of data curation and management programs under the rubric of a campus wide institutional repository.
 

The successful candidate will be expected to meet UAF campus wide criteria for promotion and tenure.
Required qualifications: Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited or equivalent foreign-accredited program by date of hire. Evidence of effective communication skills.


Desired qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in any of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) subjects. Experience with collection development, reference services, or library oriented instruction in the sciences. Established record of professional scholarly and research activity.

Salary and benefits:
$53,000-$58,000 (Base 9 month)
Contract is for 9 + 3 Month workload
