Working with Opensource Software

A LITA preconference at 2002 ALA Annual Conference

This preconference will be held at Emory University's Woodruff Library. See below for directions and information about transportation options.

Registration will be available onsite at Emory's Woodruff Library for this LITA Preconference. If you plan to attend please fill out this form up to Wednesday June 12 with your session preferences so we'll know to expect you.

This workshop provides hands-on experience in using and implementing Open Source tools and software as they relate to libraries. Held at Emory University, participants will attend an opening overview session and then will attend 3 out of 9 break-out sessions (maximum 2 people per computer) focused on a particular Open Source tool or software, the day will end with an hour long Q&A. Each break-out session will feature a different Open Source software and be taught by an expert for that particular technology. Break-out sessions will be held in computer labs allowing for hands-on learning with two people per computer station.

Pre-requisite: Familiarity and experience with the Linux operating system.

Transportation Options

This preconference is at Emory University in Woodruff Library. Emory is not close to the ALA Conference site. We are organizing a taxi convoy to transport registrants from the Convention Center to the Woodruff Library. Please contact Rebecca Felkner, in the LITA office by 3pm (CST) Wednesday June 12 if you wish to be included.

If you wish to use the Atlanta public transportation system MARTA to get to Emory, please visit the Emory Web site for MARTA instructions.

If you'll be driving to the Preconference site, see Emory's Web site for driving instructions. You may park in the Fishburne parking deck behind the library.

Rush hour traffic may be heavy. Please allow enough travel time.

Registration Information

LITA Member, $175; ALA Member (fee includes LITA membership), $220; Non-Member, $295.

Breaks, and materials will be included in the registration fee. Lunch will be provided.
