Top Technology Trends Committee
To organize the Top Technology Trends events held at ALA conferences, select participants to name the trends, manage online discussions and meetings, finalize results, and help with follow-up activities. The Top Technology Trends will be used to plan programs and publications.

The Top Technology Trends Committee typically consists of about 10 members, appointed from LITA membership. Committee members serve 2 year terms and are led by the committee chair.
The Top Technology Trends Committee was formed in 1998 and held its first meeting at the 1999 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. The 1998-99 LITA Annual Report notes, “With its new Top Technology Trends Committee and panel of experts, LITA reaffirms its position as the country's preeminent association for professionals working with information technologies. “ The report also states, the group will consist of LITA leaders, “acknowledged for their reputations and expertise in our field,” who will identify technology trends librarians should track. The report also emphasizes the strategic importance of this group to LITA as it identifies trends that will influence National Forum programming, LITA publications, programming and other LITA initiatives.
LITA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on this committee. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee, be able to participate in Committee meetings when scheduled, e.g., Annual Conferences, Midwinter Meetings, or other times of the year as needed and, be able to contribute to the activities of the committee Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out the application form. Generally, appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1, for two year terms. Exceptions to this include the LITA National Forum Planning Committee (18 months before the Forum through the December after the Forum), the Nominating Committee (18 months before the election through the election) and, the Awards and Scholarships committees (one year terms).
