Composition
The Assessment and Research Committee typically consists of about 10 members, appointed from LITA membership. Committee members serve 2 year terms and are led by the committee chair.
Origin
The Assessment and Research Committee began as a task force in 2006. The Spring 2006 Executive/Budget Review Committee Minutes note the initial proposal for the task force was submitted by Bonnie Postlethwaite, LITA President. "Reviewed a proposal from Bonnie to establish a Research Task Force charged with 'recommending an ongoing implementation and evaluation/assessment plan for LITA’s strategic initiatives and membership activities to inform decisions for future planning and resource allocation and to determine the success of current programs and initiatives.'" The June 23, 2006 LITA Board of Directors Meeting Minutes state, "The Task Force is charged with identifying where in the organizational structure to incorporate assessment of what we are doing. A report is due at Midwinter." At the 2007 ALA Midwinter Meeting, the group submitted their Assessment and Research Task Force Final Report.
