Library Automation Technologies

The following scholarship(s) available through the ALA Scholarship Program are designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons that indicate a potential for leadership and commitment to library technology.

  • LITA/Christian (Chris) Larew Memorial Scholarship in Library and Information Technology - this $3,000 scholarship is awarded jointly on an annual basis by the Library and Information Technology Association (LITA), a division of the American Library Association, and Informata.com. The scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons into the library and information technology field, who plan to follow a career in that field, and who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership, and a vision in pursuit of library and information technology.
  • LITA/LSSI Minority Scholarship - awarded annually by Library Systems and Services, Inc. and LITA in the amount of $2,500, this scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons into the library and automation field who demonstrate potential in and have a strong commitment to the use of automated systems in libraries and who are qualified members of a principal minority group.
  • LITA/OCLC Minority Scholarship - awarded jointly annually by OCLC, Inc. and LITA in the amount of $3,000, this scholarship is designed to encourage the entry of qualified persons into the library and automation field who demonstrate potential in and have a strong commitment to the use of automated systems in libraries and who are qualified members of a principal minority group.

ALA also has general scholarships, scholarships for library support staff, and scholarships for underrepresented groups. All ALA Scholarships can be applied for through the ALA Scholarship Program.
