ALA and its divisions need to continue their work to simplify structures and engage members in making real change in libraries and the library profession. This means supporting the people who work in libraries, and making it possible for workers at all levels to expand their opportunities. As institutions, libraries can work together to make sure the increasingly homogenous companies that support our work are doing the best they can for their customers. My daily work encompasses web development, scholarly communications, metadata, governance and planning, and electronic resource management, giving me a very real idea of what Core members do every day, and what needs to happen to make these things better.

Anecdotally, I hear from association members about uncertainty and lack of clarity about how Core will work in practice and how they can find a place in our new home; for some this liminality/uncertainty is an uncomfortable place to sit in. I am very excited to continue to shape the future direction of Core, providing some clarity along the way and building on the infrastructure that has been put in place. As an assessment practitioner, I bring a plethora of skills that are well paired with leadership skills developed during my fellowship with ARL’s Library Career Development Program fellowship among other leadership opportunities. I’m particularly eager to share my expertise in service design and user experience as one of the ways that we build a connected division where members are not just welcomed but wanted.
