About the Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media The Peter Lyman Memorial/SAGE Scholarship in New Media will support a student in an ALA accredited master’s program in Library and Information Studies pursing a specialty in new media. New media is defined as digital technology’s transformation of business and culture during the past 25-plus years, clarifying the evolution of digital communications and human-computer interaction.

The scholarship was created in memory of Peter Lyman, former university librarian and professor emeritus of the School of Information at the University of California, Berkeley. Professor Lyman was nationally known for his landmark study on information overload entitled, “How Much Information?” co-authored with Hal Valerian.
