The Association of Specialized Government and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASGCLA) is a division of the American Library Association. ASGCLA is the premier destination for information and building capacity for libraries and library agencies that provide specialized services. ASGCLA focuses on providing a voice and advocacy for library services to populations that are underserved such as people with sensory, physical, health or behavioral conditions, those who are incarcerated or detained and more.
Who We Are
ASGCLA libraries and library agencies represent libraries providing specialized services to underserved populations, state library agencies, federal libraries, armed forces libraries, library cooperatives and consortia, as well as independent librarians and those who provide library consulting. What We Do
ASGCLA offers enrichment and educational opportunities for its diverse members through online webinars and eCourses, as well as in-person Conference programs. ASGCLA supports leadership growth through programs such as the Awards Program, a Mentoring Program and support for an ALA Emerging Leader. ASGCLA enhances the effectiveness of library service by enabling high quality networking and leadership roles though our many Interest Groups, ASGCLA members produce resources available on ASGCLADirect.org. ASGCLA members develop industry standards and guidelines including the most recent revision of the Standards and Guidelines of Service for the Library of Congress Network of Libraries for the Blind and Physically Handicapped. ASGCLA members also promoted the Prisoners’ Right to Read, the ALA Conference Accessibility Task Force Report, and more.
