The panel will discuss the many different paths to employment as a federal librarian and provide practical tools for navigating these paths. Our subjects will include the USAJobs website, navigating the federal employment process and the differences in how the three branches and independent organizations operate in hiring employees.
Upon completion of this webinar, participants will:
- Successfully navigate the USA Jobs site, submit federal applications, and prepare a federal resume
- Understand the federal hiring process and differences between hiring protocols in the three branches (executive, legislative, and judicial) and trust positions (e.g. Smithsonian Institute)
- Prepare an effective federal job search strategy

Lee Lipscomb, Assistant Librarian, Federal Judicial Center and Adjunct Professor at the University of Maryland iSchool
Jennifer Manning, Senior Research Librarian, Congressional Research Service, Library of Congress will discuss legislative jobs and resources for locating internships
Kate McNamara, Project Manager Librarian Census Bureau will discuss executive branch employment, hybrid positions, and presidential management fellows program
Amanda Wilson, Head, National Network Coordinating Office, Library Operations, National Library of Medicine will review the medical librarianship hiring process, SES level employment, and job search resources

*DURING THIS TIME OF COVID-19 RELATED LIBRARY CLOSURES: For purposes of group registration, RUSA will define a group as up to 20 staff from the single library system working remotely and logging in individually from multiple locations to participate in the live webinar broadcast. It will be the responsibility of the registrants to share the webinar login information with members of their staff who wish to participate.
