Review: Libraires and Google

Jerry Reynolds, Manager, Talking Books/Special Needs Library, Jacksonville (FL) Public Library

Libraries and Google, edited by William Miller and Rita M. Pellen, provides a wonderful overview of Google with a good look at its benefits and dangers. Some of the material would have the reader believe “the sky is falling” and other material sees Google as the purveyor of the mother lode. After reading the whole book, the reader doubtless walks away with a renewed respect and interest in Google, albeit with some trepidation. The book closes with listings of blogs to keep the reader current with ongoing developments. From a personal perspective, I do wish that more attention had been given to accessibility issues, but the book is a stimulating and worthwhile read.
