ALTAFF Member Benefits
How ALTAFF Membership Works
There are two basic types of membership - personal and group. Personal membership is for those who wish to be active in ALA and ALTAFF. Personal members first join ALA and then join ALTAFF. Personal members not only gain access to ALTAFF member benefits and resources, they can also vote, serve on committee, and stand for election to the ALTAFF board. Group members join ALTAFF directly for access to member benefits and resources only. Board of Trustees Group Membership
A library Board of Trustees can join ALTAFF to receive publications and online resources. This is not a voting membership for ALA or ALTAFF, and does not include any of the benefits afforded to ALA personal members. Board of Trustees group members receive a subscription to The Voice, the bimonthly newsletter of ALTAFF and access to the Trustee Zone. Rates are based on library operating budget:
- Small (library operating budget under $1 million/yr): $50
- Medium (library operating budget between $1 million/yr and $5 million/yr): $80
- Large (library operating budget more than $5 million/yr): $125
- International (regardless of budget): $85
Friends of the Library Group Membership
A Friends of the Library group can join ALTAFF to receive publications and online resources. This is not a voting membership for ALA or ALTAFF, and does not include any of the benefits afforded to ALA personal members. Group members receive a subscription to The Voice, the bimonthly newsletter of ALTAFF and access to the Friends & Foundations Zone. Group members are eligible to apply for group-based awards and grants. Please see the full list of Friends of the Library group member benefits for more information.
Rates are based on number of Friends members:
- Up to 99 members: $50
- 100-499 members: $80
- More than 500 members: $125
- International (regardless of budget): $85
Library Foundation Group Membership
A library Foundation can join ALTAFF to receive publications and online resources. This is not a voting membership for ALA or ALTAFF, and does not include any of the benefits afforded to ALA personal members. Foundation group members receive a subscription to The Voice, the bimonthly newsletter of ALTAFF and access to the Friends & Foundations Zone. Personal Membership
Current ALA members can join ALTAFF for $50 with the choice of one section free (Trustee, Friends, or Foundations). Additional sections are $15 each.
If you are not yet a member of ALA, you can join for as little as $59 and then join ALTAFF for $50 with the choice of one section free (Trustee, Friends, or Foundations). Additional sections are $15 each. ALA membership rates start at $59 for Friends and Trustees.
ALTAFF personal members in any section can participate on committees, help with the development of programs and resources, and are eligible to run for board positions. Members receive The Voice, ALTAFF’s bimonthly newsletter with articles, resources, and tips from Trustees, Friends, and Foundations around the country. Note that organizational members of ALA may also join ALTAFF for $50 with the choice of one section free (Trustees, Friends, or Foundations) and purchase additional sections for $15 each. Representatives of organizational members cannot vote, serve on committees, or stand for election unless also a personal member of both ALA and ALTAFF.
All members are eligible for special offers and discounts from ALTAFF corporate sponsors and receive access to current and archived copies of The Voice as well as additional toolkits, electronic publications, and resources based on the type of personal or group membership chosen.
