ALTAFF Programs: Public Library Association Conference 2010
Trustee Excellence: Creating a Strong Foundation Through Orientation and Education
Fri., March 26, 2010
4-5:15 p.m.
Room D135-136, Oregon Convention Center
Nothing will do more to ensure that library Trustees are able to become part of a dynamic team guiding the library into the future than effective orientation. It’s said that you never get a second chance to make a first impression, and orientation works to same way. Library administrators have always known that what a staff learns in the first few weeks on the job will likely inform his or her practice for years to come. Continuing education will enhance that first learning experience.
The Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF) is pleased to offer both library administrators and Trustees the information they need to create effective Trustee orientation and education programs. Experts from the field will share with the audience best practices and successful techniques for getting Trustees on board quickly – helping them to understand their roles and providing them with the background information they need to carry out their policy, advisory and/or fiduciary responsibilities.
Panelists include Kathy Caudill (Trustee, North Suburban [Ill.] Library System), Susan Mark (Wyoming State Library), Shannon Roy (Kansas State Library), and Nann Blaine Hilyard (Director, Zion-Benton [Ill.] Public Library), who will moderate the program.
