Thank you for registering for the ALSC Preconference, A Wild Ride: 75 Years of the Caldecott Medal. Please read the below follow-up information about the Preconference carefully and respond to the survey about your reception attendance, breakout selection and dietary restrictions by May 31, 2013. The Preconference is taking place at the Art Institute of Chicago (AIC), located at 111 S Michigan Ave, Chicago, IL 60603.
There will be a reception for all Preconference Attendees at the AIC on Thursday, June 27, 2013 from 6 - 8 pm. This is an optional event; there will be no formal program, so feel free to drop in any time between the hours of 6 and 8. Please enter through the Modern Wing doors off of Monroe Dr., a map is available with more specific directions. A member of the Preconference committee will be there to check you in. During this time attendees are welcome to view the museum's exhibit, Play, Pretend, and Dream: Caldecott Medal and Honor Books, 2010–2013, and have books signed by featured Caldecott artists. The Museum Shop will have books available for purchase. Light appetizers and a cash bar will be available. This reception is for registered Preconference attendees only. The reception is taking place in the Ryan Education Center where the exhibit is located; guests will not have access to the other areas of the museum during this time.
Please indicate your breakout session preference by completing this brief survey. Due to space constraints, we may not be able to honor your first choice, but we will try to assign you to one of your top four choices. This will be handled on a first-come first-serve basis. A complete list of breakout session descriptions is available on the ALSC website or as a PDF. Please respond by May 31, 2013 at the latest.
Arriving at the AIC
Preconference registration begins at 7:30 am at the AIC on Friday, June 28, 2013. Because the museum will not yet be open, you will need to enter through the doors on Columbus Drive, between Monroe St. and Jackson Dr. A member of the ALSC Preconference committee will be there to welcome you. A map is available with more specific directions.
Small Group Book Discussions
Please be on the look out for an email message from Preconference Co-Chair KT Horning that provides you with a group assignment for a small group book discussion of Caldecott Medal books. As part of this message, you will receive a list of eight Caldecott Medal books you should read prior to the Preconference, so you will be prepared to discuss them in a small group.
The Preconference is sold out and has a waiting list. If, for some reason, your plans change, please let us know as soon as possible so we can open a space up to someone else. We look forward to seeing you in June!
