Podcast Playground - Part 1 - Discovery of Kids Podcasts

Come play in our Podcast Playground where we’ll listen, explore, and play with the evolving world of kids podcasting. In Part 1, we’ll play with various ways to discover and find great podcasts for kids; we’ll share ways to access, search, and play kids podcasts and we’ll also share where to find podcast recommendations/reviews for high-quality audio.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will be able to articulate how children’s podcasting connects with children’s services. {Comprehension outcome - we will compare and contrast audio storytelling and learning with children’s library services, highlighting the ways librarians can play a role in helping shape this medium.}
Participants will be able to discover, access and play great podcasts for kids, ages birth to 12 {Note: Application outcome - we will share specific apps for playing podcasts, social media guides for finding kids podcasts and best practices forming around high-quality audio}

Anne Bensfield is the Children’s Digital Learning Librarian at the Oak Park Public Library. She strategizes and implements emerging technologies as a member of the District 97 School Technology Advisory Committee. She engages families with podcasts, coding, and robotics playgroups. Her tech talks have aired at ILA, Library Journal, and School Library Journal.
Pamela Rogers is the host and creator of the newly launched Buttons and Figs podcast. She’s been a children’s librarian and early literacy trainer since 2008. She’s one of the authors of the new PLA/ALSC early literacy resources, “Every Child Ready to Read:
Toolkit for Serving Early Childhood Educators.” She has worked with public libraries in Arlington, VA; Dallas, TX; D.C. and New Orleans, LA, as well as various school libraries and after-school programs to promote listening, reading, and learning with audio and play.
