Online Continuing Education (CE) Strategy Task Force

Charge

Continuing education is one of three major sources of revenue for ALSC. The other two are member dues and revenue from the sale of award seals.  This task force will work with the Program Officer for Continuing Education to analyze ALSC’s current online continuing education content and recommend a strategy for determining what types of online content will be offered in the future and what content will be offered for a fee. Currently there is a mix of multi-week online courses and one hour webinars (both free and at a charge).  Budget should be considered as part of the discussion which includes ALSC’s relationship with ALA (overhead on gross revenue) and other units (HRDR- CEU fees; Registration Dept- fee per person to register). Additionally, the task force may wish to survey the profession with a continuing education needs assessment.

Get Involved

ALSC and ALA value committed and active committee members. Qualified ALSC members are welcome to volunteer to serve on ALSC's committees. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other ALSC committees by filling out an ALSC committee volunteer form. Depending on the committee, appointments take place either in the spring or fall. Accordingly, committee service begins either following Annual Conference or Midwinter Meeting.
