Multicultural literacy is instrumental in solving our most pressing problems, and must be an essential aspect of early childhood education and youth services programming. This presentation provides guidance on how to incorporate cultural diversity into library storytime programs. Additionally, attendees will be provided with a variety of multimedia resources to guide them through the process of high-quality material selection.
- Understand the importance of having conversations about race and shades with children, beginning at an early age.
- Be directed to age and cognitively-appropriate resources that will aid in initiating and facilitating conversations on race openly and confidently with children and their caregivers during storytime programs.
- Understand the importance of recognizing implicit biases and be given tools for self-assessment.

Marianne Rodriguez Dolce has been a youth services advocate for over eight years serving in public libraries and most currently as a school media specialist. The focus of her education and career has been centered on multicultural literacy, and bilingual library programming and service.
