Managing Children's Services: Managing Financials in a Youth Services Department

A section of a four part webinar series designed to develop leadership and managerial skills among ALSC members, this webinar will focus on the ins and outs of budgeting, keeping track of departmental spending, the bigger picture of the library's budget, and how to ask for more money for youth services.

Learning Outcomes

Participants will:
  • determine what budgetary items they are responsible for
  • understand their library's fiscal year
  • identify financial decision makers in their library setting understand basic budgetary terms become aware of basic tools to use learn how to communicate budgetary issues to both staff and administration learn how to prepare for end of year budget reports and updates

Who Should Attend

children's librarians in public libraries with little management experience, new to a role with managerial responsibilities, or aspiring to a promotion; middle management, librarians who supervise children's librarians, though they themselves are not children's/youth services specialists; and upper management, librarians who supervise children's services managers/supervisor
