This presentation focuses on the 10 principles for illustrating a great picture book. Following each principle there will be illustrations of images from children’s books to illuminate the principle. The artists featured include David Wiesner – winner of 3 gold Caldecott medals to Betsy Lewin the illustrator of the wildly successful “Click Clack Moo” series to a more recent Caldecott winner Brian Selznick creator of "Hugo Cabret," now an Oscar winning motion picture.
- Learners will be informed about what makes great art in a children’s book.
- Learners will gain a profession approach and understanding to evaluating what makes a great picture book.
- Learners will have a ten principle model by which to judge childrens’ book illustration.

Children's librarians and library paraprofessional and support staff in public and school libraries who work with young children.
Dilys Evans was a fine artist before falling in love with children ‘s book illustration. She worked for Cricket magazine; then in 1978 she founded Dilys Evans Fine Illustration, LLC, an agency representing many acclaimed artists. Over the course of her career, those artists have won Caldecott medals and Honor awards and have consistently appeared on the New York Times Best Sellers Lists. Dilys is the Founder of The Original Art, which first exhibited at the Master Eagle Gallery in 1980 and moved to its permanent home at the Society of Illustrators in 1990. She is also the author of Show & Tell (Chronicle Books), described by School Library Journal as “an enlightening must read for all picture-book enthusiasts.”
