The way children learn and develop affects everything we do in the library. From collection development to program planning, it is vital that we understand how our children learn and grow in order to provide the best possible programs and services for them. Attendees will learn about the different stages and phases of early childhood development from an expert and then explore ways to put that knowledge into practice.
By attending this webinar, participants will:
- Understand relevant research that supports the importance of early learning
- Gain insight into the stages of early childhood development and ways that these stages impact families and librarians
- Draw new connections between how children develop and the programs and materials the library offers
Who Should Attend
The primary audience will be children’s librarians and library staff in public libraries who are serving youth ages 0-6. We believe that anyone interested in working with young children, will find this webinar series beneficial. Practitioners will be able to learn new information and build upon what they already know. In addition, youth services managers, branch managers, and library directors who supervise librarians working with ages 0-5 will find this webinar valuable.
Helen Frazier, Director of Early Childhood, NY Early Childhood Professional Development Institute
Helen Frazier has worked in early childhood education as a preschool and kindergarten teacher, a special educator, a consultant and a coach since 1998. She received her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Special Education from Bank Street College of Education. Most recently, Helen has worked as a Master Teacher at SCO FirstStepNYC, the birth-to-five demonstration site for the Early Childhood Leadership Institute. Helen joined the Institute in February 2015. Her work has focused on collaborating with the Division of Early Childhood Education to design content, train trainers, and lead coaching for of the PreKforAll professional learning lane: Using Data to Inform Instruction.
