Book babies 2

From Mary Sorhus at the New Canaan (CT) Library:

“Book Babies is a program (for babies ages 0 to 18 months) held once a week at 11 AM. As a non-registered program, the amount of people in the room varies from week to week, but on average I have about 20 – 25 babies and their parents. (Total of around 50 people in the room.) For the first 20 – 25 minutes we sing songs, do nursery rhymes together and read a board book together as a group. We switch between Read to Your Bunny by Rosemary Wells or Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin, Jr. For the last 20 – 25 minutes, I bring out toys … and the room is opened up for everyone to chat, relax and socially interact with one another. The total length is just about 45 minutes.”

Sample Program

Opening Song:  Hello, Everybody

Hello everybody and how are you?
How are you? How are you?
Hello everybody and how are you?
How are you today?

“Good morning, everyone! Welcome to Book Babies! My name is Miss Mary. What we do here is for the first 20 minutes, we’ll sing songs, do some rhymes and even read a book together! The last 20 minutes, I’ll bring out some toys, and that is the perfect time to meet new people and make new friends. All of these songs are designed for you to be interacting with your little one. So, remember, it is just as important for your little one to hear your voice as it is to hear mine. If there are any walkers in the room, let them walk. They are still absorbing the songs and language development. Let’s go ahead and get started by waking all of us up with some wiggling!”
