To examine the Newbery, Caldecott, and other book awards’ manuals in order to address how graphic novels should be considered within the context of each award’s terms and criteria. To write sections for the “expanded definitions and examples” sections of the Newbery and Caldecott manuals - and for other award manuals if deemed necessary - that address graphic novels. Any recommended changes must include a thorough exploration of potential impacts to budget and organizational capacity.
The ALSC Graphic Novel Consideration Task Force consists of consists of four (4) members including a chair (Priority Group V, Awards).
Term of appointment: Immediately (August 2018) through the end of the 2019 Midwinter conference (January 31, 2019).
Established at the request of the Board of Directors.
ALSC and ALA value committed and active committee members. Qualified ALSC members are welcome to volunteer to serve on ALSC's committees. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other ALSC committees by filling out an ALSC committee volunteer form. Depending on the committee, appointments take place either in the spring or fall. Accordingly, committee service begins either following Annual Conference or Midwinter Meeting.
