Local Arrangements Committee

Charge

To work with the Program Officer for Continuing Education in performing the tasks necessary to make ALSC Annual Conference functions run smoothly. Tasks delegated to the committee vary from year to year but generally include:
 
1. Providing monitors for ALSC education programs to distribute handouts and evaluations and to provide speaker assistance if necessary. 
2. Arranging for volunteers to assist with the Newbery-Caldecott banquet. Their duties include helping with directions and flow into and out of the ballroom, distribution of programs and favors at the seats, etc.
3. Providing local information to the association through postings on the ALSC-L electronic discussion list and website, as well as assisting with requests for venue suggestions.

Composition

The Local Arrangements Committee consists of between five and seven members (depending on site and type of events planned) appointed from the ALSC membership, serving a 1-year term and led by the committee chair. Committee members must live near the conference site. (Chair + 4-6)

Established at the request of the ALSC Board of Directors.

Get Involved

ALSC and ALA value committed and active committee members. Qualified ALSC members are welcome to volunteer to serve on ALSC's committees. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other ALSC committees by filling out an ALSC committee volunteer form. Depending on the committee, appointments take place either in the spring or fall. Accordingly, committee service begins either following Annual Conference or Midwinter Meeting.
