Preservation Week Committee

Charge

Develops, facilitates and maintains the initiative of preservation week focused on collections. Promotes the effort through a wide variety of strategies, working closely with ALCTS liaison and staff. Enhances online outreach to the public via @yourlibrary and to libraries and cultural institutions via the preservation week web site. Reports to the PARS executive committee.

Composition

The Preservation Week Committee consists of eight members appointed by the Chair-Elect. Eight members each serving a two-year term, plus one Chair serving a one-year term. Service is limited to four consecutive years.

Origin

Established in 2009 at the request of ALCTS, the former task force was originally charged with investigating the value of promoting a Preservation Week, but in 2010 its scope changed to both initiate and continue the Preservation Week event. ALA has designated Preservation Week as an @your library event. At the ALA Midwinter Meeting in 2014, PARS changed the name of the group from Preservation Week Working Group to Preservation Week Committee.

Get Involved

ALCTS values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the committee. Members must be willing to devote time to this effort. Most meetings take palce via conference calls.
