PARS Oral History Project Working Group

Charge

The charge of the Oral History Project Working Group is to:

  • Plan a viable program and procedures to perform interviews with preservation professionals, record interviews (audio and/or visual), and retain recordings according to digital preservation standards. Determine a repository to store digital files.
  • Develop a system of choosing and/or nominating interview subjects and interviewees and a database to track all pertinent information. Oversee training of volunteer interviewers.
  • Review the process, including participant selection, permission forms, recording equipment, and digital storage, and make recommendations for revisions. Investigate feasible transcription services and workflows.
  • Exchange information with the managers of other oral history projects to ensure best practices and to generate new ideas for the dissemination of oral histories. Encourage such activities on the part of appropriate representative libraries and organizations.
  • Propose presentations and posters for ALA and allied professional conferences and/or write articles for publications to inform people about the Oral History Project.

Get Involved

ALCTS values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the working group. Members must be willing to devote time to this effort. Most meetings take place via conference calls.
