Banks-Harris Preservation Award Jury

Charge

To select the recipient of the annual award to recognize the outstanding contribution of a professional who has been active in the field of preservation and/or conservation. criteria for selection will be evidence of contribution determined by the person's accomplishments in preservation and/or conservation activities such as: leadership in professional associations at local, state, regional or national levels; contributions to the development, application, or utilization of new or improved methods, techniques, and routines; significant contribution to professional literature; evidence of studies or research in preservation; or, training and mentoring in the field of preservation. The award is given in memory of Paul Banks and Carolyn Harris, early leaders in library preservation, teachers, and mentors for many in the field of preservation. In any year, the jury may decide that there is no qualified candidate and not present an award.

Get Involved

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the Banks-Harris Preservation Award Jury. Members must have an interest in the work of the jury; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the group's meetings and activities; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other ALCTS groups by filling out a volunteer form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Service usually begins after Annual Conference, about July 1.
