Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award Jury


Annual citation to be given to the author(s) of the best paper published each year in the division's official journal. The recipient(s) shall meet the following criteria: (1) the content is a significant contribution about one or more issues addressed by ALCTS and its sections; (2) the statements in the paper are adequately supported by accurate data and/or documentation; (3) the writing style is clear and readable. Each of the papers published in the volume for the preceding calendar year is eligible for consideration with the exception of official reports and documents, obituaries, letters to the editor and biographies of award winners. The jury may, at its discretion, invite recommendations from other readers. The jury may decide that there is no qualified article and not present an award.

The Best of LRTS Award Jury consists of 4 members and a chair appointed by the ALCTS president-elect from the membership at large serving a one-year terms.


Established in 1986 at the request of the ALCTS Board.

Get Involved

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the Edward Swanson Memorial Best of LRTS Award Jury. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out an application form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1.
