Charge

To advise the board of directors and through it the association on the establishment, functions, and discontinuance of sections, committees, and other groups as the needs of the association may require. To review documents and practices and to advise the officers of the association and its sections and of affiliated groups, or groups seeking affiliation, about consistency with the bylaws of the association. To recommend amendments to the bylaws of the association and to report upon proposals for amendments referred to the committee. To review each standing association-level committee every five years concerning its relevance and success in forwarding the mission and priorities of the association.

Get Involved

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on Organization & Bylaws. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out an application form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1.
