CaMMS Research & Publications Committee

Charge

To be aware of the current status of research in cataloging and classification and identify areas where research is needed; to encourage librarians to propose topics and problems in bibliographic control for discussion, research and action. Responsibilities include: to summarize recent literature on specific topics, provide commentaries, and suggest areas for future research; to coordinate the development and review of publications prior to submission to the CaMMS executive committee; to refer approved proposals and manuscripts to the CaMMS executive committee; to identify appropriate topics for new publications; to review existing publications as needed; to establish subcommittees and/or identify existing CaMMS units to develop guides and other publications; to serve as consultant to other CaMMS units that wish to prepare documents for publication; to maintain contact with the ALA committee on research and statistics and the ALCTS publications committee.

ALA values committed and active committee members. Qualified members are welcome to volunteer to serve on the CaMMS Research and Publications Committee. Committee members must have an interest in the work of the committee; be able to attend Annual Conferences and Midwinter Meetings to participate in the meetings and activities of the committee; and be able to work between conferences via e-mail and ALA Connect. Express your interest in serving on this or other committees by filling out an application form. Appointments take place once a year, during the spring. Committee service usually begins following Annual Conference, about July 1.
