Formerly conceived as repositories of print collections, libraries of all sorts are now providing electronic access to a wide range of digital resources. The publishing industry is changing rapidly, making fewer print options available to store in library buildings. How will your organization or institution continue to provide value for customers using the library building? What changes are you making to physical spaces that make accessing resources easier for differently abled users? How are you determining when to reduce shelving for print collections? What alternative uses do you foresee for those former shelving spaces?
Please join us for an exciting and informative e-forum on January 14 and 15, 2013, to discuss how libraries of all types are adjusting their physical locations in response to the changing information environment. This e-forum will provide participants an opportunity to talk about what their libraries are doing to adjust to thinking of the library as place with unlimited potential. Librarians and technical services staff from all types of libraries are invited to participate.

Laurie St. Laurent is the Branch Manager at the new 54,000 sq ft Spencer Road Branch of the St. Charles (MO) City-County Library District. She earned her Master of Science in Librarianship at Western Michigan University and has worked in a variety of libraries in several states. She is the former Director of the Marshall (MI) District Library, where she was active in the Michigan Library Association, Woodlands Library Cooperative, and regional literacy organizations. Her advocacy position for library support of early learning resulted in an appointment to the Library of Michigan Youth Services Advisory Council. In addition, St. Laurent is an adjunct faculty member of the Wayne State University School of Library and Information Science.
Deborah J. Margolis is Reference/Collections Librarian at the Michigan State University (MSU) Libraries. She is responsible for library collections in Anthropology, Jewish Studies, Muslim Studies, and Middle East area studies. In addition, she serves as library liaison to MSU’s Resource Center for Persons with Disabilities and is chair of the Libraries’ Diversity Advisory Committee. Deborah earned her MLS at Syracuse University’s School of Information Studies and has worked in a variety of library types. In Baltimore (MD), Deborah was Youth Services Coordinator at the Maryland State Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, where she coordinated a renovation of that library’s children’s area (see “Braille That Stands Out in More Ways Than One” in Children’s Services: Partnerships for Success, ALA Editions, 2010).
