Event Preview: Midwinter 2011
Council of Regional Groups Membership Meeting
The Council of Regional Groups Membership Meeting will take place on January 9, 2011, 1:30–3:30 pm at the Hilton Bayfront, Indigo 202 B.
All members of ALCTS Affiliate Groups are invited to attend the membership meeting and hear about what the Council is working on. Come and share news about your regional group activities and workshops, and let us know how we might be able to help you. CRG communicates often with the ALCTS Continuing Education Committee, which is the group that creates workshops and webinars, so if you have ideas for workshops, let CRG know so that they can put those ideas forward.
Contact Louise Ratliff, (email@example.com) Chair, Council of Regional Groups, for more information.
Preservation Week Working Group
The Preservation Week Working Group will meet during the All-Committee Meeting (ALCTS PARS) on January 10, 2011, 8 am–noon in the San Diego Convention Center, Room 30A.
The Group welcomes interested individuals to learn more about the 2011 event planning for April 24–30, 2011. We also welcome individuals who may wish to inform the Working Group of what they are planning for this national Preservation Awareness Week. Contact Jeanne Drewes, (firstname.lastname@example.org) Chair, for more information.
ALCTS Member Reception
The ALCTS Reception will be on Saturday, January 8, 2011, 6–8 pm in the Hilton Bayfront Hotel, Aqua Room 306 (third floor).
Webinar Playground Open House
The ALCTS Continuing Education Committee is hosting a Webinar Playground from noon to 2 pm at the San Diego Convention Center, San Diego Convention Center, Room 05A. If you are eager to find out what is involved in developing and presenting a webinar, please come and talk with members of the CE committee, check out the GoToWebinar software, and learn how effective webinars are in providing targeted, timely continuing professional development content at the desktop for librarians and library staff.
Feel free to bring your lunch. ALCTS will supply beverages. A short presentation on webinar basics will be offered at 12:15, 12:45, and 1:15 and there will also be plenty of time for hands-on experimentation with the software. This is a great opportunity to experience a webinar from the perspective of an attendee, a host/presenter, and a member of the technical support team.
All ALA Midwinter attendees are cordially invited. You do not need to be a member of ALCTS to participate. Please contact Pamela Bluh (email@example.com) or Helen Reed (Helen.Reed@unco.edu) with questions or comments.
PCC Participants Meeting
The PCC Participants' Meeting will include a panel discussion "PCC and RDA: Breaking the Silence" on January 9, 2011, 4–5:30 pm in the San Diego Convention Center, Room 26.
Responding to a set of questions related to their experience in applying RDA during the U.S. RDA Test, a panel of catalogers will discuss their experiences as PCC participants in the test. The speakers will represent the existing MARC-based PCC programs (BIBCO, NACO, and CONSER) and the non-MARC metadata viewpoint. Discussion will focus on what they learned during the test that has a bearing on future PCC policy and operational matters.
