Former ALA President Betty Turock visited the ALCTS Board of Directors meeting on January 18 during the 2010 ALA Midwinter Meeting. The goals for the campaign are to raise $1 million, increase the number of scholarships given to 100, and to launch a program that will give two fellowships to doctoral students. To ensure the ongoing future of the Spectrum program, ALA will allot 10 percent of endowments to the program, and will work with corporations to match donations. They are $500,000 short of their goal. Turock has provided a gift of $100,000 to the program on behalf of the Turock family.
There is an option to donate as a division or as an individual. Pledges may also be for a specific time period; a number of options are available. It costs $6,500 to support a Spectrum Scholar. See http://www.ala.org/ala/aboutala/offices/diversity/spectrum/index.cfm for more information.
