Memorial Resolution Honors Marla Schwarz

Whereas, Marla J. Schwartz, an esteemed librarian and valued member of the serials and law library communities, died at the age of 56 on August 8, 2005 in Rockville, Maryland, and

Whereas, Her career encompassed serials and acquisitions positions in government, general and law academic libraries, including work at the U.S. Government Printing Office, The Urban Institute, George Washington University, George Mason University, and most recently as head of acquisitions and technical systems and a tenured member of the Law Library Faculty at American University, and

Whereas, She was an active participant in the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services (ALCTS), and particularly in the Serials Section, where she ably served as chair for 2000/01, member of the Nominating Committee; chair and member of the Acquisitions Committee; chair and member of the Education Committee; was a member of the ACLTS Best of LRTS Award Committee and Association of American Publishers/ALCTS Joint Committee, and Council or Regional Groups; was a member of several other divisions and sections of the American Library Association; and an active participant in the American Association of Law Libraries (AALL) and the North American Serials Interest Group (NASIG); and now, therefore be it

Resolved, That the Association for Library Collections and Technical Services on behalf of its members recognized Marla J. Schwartz’s significant contributions to the profession of librarianship and her dedicated service to the Association; and, be it further

Resolved, That this Association expresses its sincere sympathy to her husband, Howard Morrison, and to the members of her family.
