I’m so very happy to begin my year as President of ALCTS. We have an exciting year ahead of us! This year we’ll focus on the ALCTS Strategic Plan, and a final version of the plan will be presented to the Board at the Annual meeting in 2006. Please take every opportunity to participate in its revision. Also, we look forward to the debut of the Online Communities software that will be available to ALCTS committee members later this year. This new software will facilitate discussion among committee members.
I’m also very excited about plans for the fiftieth anniversary celebration of ALCTS and
LRTS. The year 2007 marks the fiftieth anniversary of both—and we’re already making plans to celebrate these milestones. Keep your eyes and ears open for updates!
The section chairs and I have completed the committee appointment process. The online committee volunteer forms certainly helped to make the appointment process smooth and efficient. This year automatic responses were generated from the database to committee appointees. This streamlined the work of the ALCTS Office, section chairs, and myself. We hope to continue to improve the functionality of the forms.
The committee appointment process begins in the early fall. We always need people to volunteers for committees, to nominate individuals for awards, and to consider running for office. Please be active in the division. I encourage all who are interested in serving on an ALCTS committee to submit a volunteer form. The form is available on the front page of the ALCTS Web site at
