Be a Reporter for ALCTS

Be an ALCTS Reporter and See Your Name in the Newsletter!

The ALCTS Newsletter Online editor is looking once again for members to write summary reports on our division’s preconferences and programs in Chicago for the August Newsletter. These summaries allow all members to benefit from the events our division is sponsoring at Annual Conference. Both veteran and novice reporters are encouraged to volunteer for these assignments.

If you’d like to be a reporter in Chicago, here’s what you need to do:

  • Select an event from the list of ALCTS Programs and Preconferences in this issue.
  • Send an e-mail message to the editor, Miriam Palm, and indicate which event you’d like to cover. You’ll get a prompt reply to let you know if your program is available, but it’s a good idea to include alternate choices in case the one you’re most interested in happens to be taken.
  • Attend the program or preconference and take good notes!
  • Write up a brief report (300 words for programs, 500 for preconferences) including names of speakers, topics covered, and whatever other aspects you think important: major points of emphasis, conclusions reached, audience response, and so on.
  • Send the report by e-mail (as a message or attached file—either is fine) to Miriam Palm no later than July 31, 2004.

Volunteer Your Smile at the ALCTS Booth in Chicago!

The ALCTS Membership Committee is seeking ALCTS members to staff the ALCTS Booth during ALA Annual Conference in Chicago this coming summer. Long-term members and new members alike are encouraged to volunteer. Duties include greeting members and potential members, and answering questions about ALCTS. The membership committee plans on having two people staff the booth at all times that it is open-please help us meet our goal!

The ALCTS Booth will be located in the Exhibition Hall at McCormick Place, South Building. Hours of operation for the booth will be Saturday, June 25 through Monday, June 27 from 9 am to 5 pm and Tuesday, June 28 from 9 am to 3 pm. Submit a volunteer form after you have a look at the volunteer schedule.

Be sure to volunteer early to get your preferred time slots.
